A. Sai Prathap was born on 20.9.1944 at Bellambary Village of Kolar district in India. He took over as the Minister of State for Steel on June 2, 2009.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Rajampet Constituency of Andhra Pradesh, was first elected to the House in 1989 and re-elected in 1991, 1996, 1998, 2004 and 2009.

He was member of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee, Ministry of Water Resources in 1990-91 and 1996-97 and Ministry of Steel and Mines between 1991-96 and 1998. He has also been member of various Committees including Committee on Labour and Welfare, Committee on Government Assurances, Committee on Agriculture, Committee on Railways, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Committee on Estimates and Committee on papers laid on the table.

A resident of Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh Shri A. Sai Prathap is educated at Gulbarga Medical College, Gulbarga. He has been an elected member of General Council of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad from 1990. He is active in social service and promoting social harmony. His special interest include reading the works of eminent leaders and sociologists and listens to light music besides walking, meditation and reading during free time.
