Aberration

Aberration is a state of being that is considered as a departure from what is usually accepted as normal. It also applies to behaviour, moral character, mental ability, attributes of the body etc of an individual or a group.

Such a departure is always unexpected and typically unwelcome.

That is why in biology and zoology, it is used as a term which, if used to denote a number of individuals within a species, unequivocally signifies infra subspecific rank.

In astronomy, the apparent deviations or displacement of a celestial body from its true position is also knows as aberration.

In optics, aberration is the failure of rays to converge at one focus, mainly due to defects in the mirrors or the lenses used.
