Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel is a small village in Nubia, the site of two huge rock-cut temples built in 13th century BC during the reign of Ramses II. It is situated in southern Egypt, near the border with Sudan.

The monuments were built to commemorate Ramses II and his first wife Nefertari.

Both the monuments were rebuilt higher on the hill-side after a High Dam was built at Aswan.
