Acceptation

Acceptation is a term in linguistics that refers to the common acceptance of a particular sense or meaning of a word, a phrase, or an expression. Generally recognized meaning of an expression is also referred to as common acceptation, because it is favourably received or approved by people.

Acceptation facilitates communication. If people don't agree to accept the commonly agreed meaning of a word, a phrase or an expression, communication will become difficult.
