ACCRA
Accra is the capital and chief port city of Ghana. It is situated on the Gulf of Guinea. It was formerly the capital of the Gold Coast, a British colony in west Africa, which became the independent nation of Ghana in 1957.
The first Europeans to arrive at the coast were the Portuguese in 1471. The British Gold Coast was formed in 1867 after the British government abolished the African Company of Merchants in 1821 and seized privately held lands along the coast.
