Acephalous

Acephalous simply means without head.

This zoological term refers to a state of being headless. Such species have either no longer a head, or are without a distinct head.

In sociology or anthropology, a society is called acephalous when it has no leader, head, or chief.

In prosody, acephalous refers to a verse that lacks syllables in the first foot.
