Acheulean

Acheulean, also spelled Acheulian, is a term used in archaeology for someone or something relating to or of Acheulean culture that derived its name from a place Acheuleen in northern France where several objects of this culture were first found.

Acheulean refers to the main Lower Paleolithic culture in Europe characterised by distinctive oval and pear-shaped hand-ax industries associated with early humans.

It has been estimated by geological dating process that the period of the Acheulean culture started about 1.5 million years ago and ended about 150,000 years ago.
