Active matrix

Active matrix is a term used in electronics that refers to a type of addressing scheme used in flat panel display system in which each pixel is individually controlled.

In this matrix, each pixel is attached to a transistor and capacitor which actively maintains the pixel state while other pixels are being addressed.
