Actress

Actress, in theater or film, is a female actor. With the rise of feminism, people are discouraged to use this word, and are advised to use the word 'actor' for both male and female characters in performance art. One of the reasons given for such suggestion is that the word 'actress' when introduced meant a woman rumoured to be promiscuous. Actor is now considered to be a gender neutral word.
