Acyl

Acyl is a term used in chemistry for a group of compounds or radical of general formula -C(O)R, where R represents an alkyl group, derived from a carboxylic acid.

Although the term is almost always applied to organic compounds, acyl groups can also in principle be derived from other types of acids.
