Admiralty Islands

Admiralty Islands is a collective name for a group of forty islands in the western Pacific ocean. They belong to Papua New Guinea.

Located northeast of New Guinea, the islands came under German protectorate in 1884. However, after 1920, they were administered as an Australian mandate. Following Papuan independence in 1975, sovereignty of the Admiralty Islands was transferred from Australia to Papua New Guinea.
