Adversarial

Adversarial is a state of being opposed or hostile to each other.

As a legal term it refers to both the parties opposed to each other. In an adversarial system of justice, the parties are supposed to find and present evidence on their own in a trial or legal procedure, since the system tries to maintain equality between prosecution and defense.
