AESCULAPIUS
AESCULAPIUS is a god of healing and medicine. He figures in both Greek and Roman mythologies. He was a son of Apollo and the nymph Coronis. He was destroyed with a thunderbolt by Zeus for restoring Hippolytus to life at the prayer of Pluto, but afterwards admitted among the gods as god of medicine and the healing art. The cock, the emblem of vigilance, and the serpent, of prudence, were sacred to him.
