Afflatus

Afflatus is a term used in philosophy that refers to a divine inspiration. This Latin term is derived from Cicero's work De Natura Deorum (The Nature of the Gods), in which he conceptualized such an inspiration coming from an outside divine source unknown to human beings. A poet does not know, or remains unaware of the origin of such an Afflatus (divine inspiration or creative impulse).
