Affricate

Affricate is a term in phonetics and phonology that refers to a phoneme combining a plosive with an immediately following fricative or spirant.

In pronunciation, the stop consonant is gradually released with friction as the sound ch in chair. The plosive and the fricative share the same place of articulation.
