African National Congress

African National Congress (ANC) is a black nationalist political party in South Africa. It led the freedom struggle of the country and finally emerged victorious in the first democratic elections held in 1994. Nelson Mandela, the leader of the ANC, became the first black president of the country.

South African government had banned this political party in 1960. The ban was effective until 1990.
