Ahobilam
Ahobilam is one of the most sacred Hindu sites in the State of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is located in the Kurnool District. It is considered to be one of the 108 Vaishnava Divyadesams in the country. The temples here are all dedicated to Narasimha, the mythological lion-god who destroyed demon Hiranyakashipu.A tradition says that this was the spot where Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, blessed Prahlada and slayed Hiranyakshipu. The temples owe their origin to the 14th century Reddi Kings but the present architectural form is a result of additions and improvements by the Vijayanagara kings in the 16th and 17th centuries. The region is famous for its two beautiful temples located in lower Ahobilam and upper Ahobilam. There are a total of nine temples dedicated to Lord Narasimha and all of them are located within a radius of 5 kilometres from the town of Ahobilam. The temple of Prahalada Varadhan is located at the foothills of the mountain and there are some located inside the caves in the mountain. Prahlada Vardha, Ugra Stambham, Bhargava Narasimha Temple, Kapileshwara Swamy temple and Mahanandi are among the other attraction of Ahobilam.
