Ainhum

Ainhum is a term in medicine for a condition in which a person ultimately loses one of the toes, usually the fifth one, because of a band of fibrous growth of tissues around its base followed by its amputation. It is also known as dactylolysis spontanea because of its spontaneous autoamputation effect.

The cause of this painful disease is yet to be ascertained, however, it has been association with moving around barefoot. It occurs mainly in the tropical region.
