Akkadian

Akkadian is someone or something of or related to the ancient kingdom of Akkad, which includes its people and the language.

Akkadians of the ancient Babylonia used to speak Akkadian, which is the oldest of the known Semitic languages. It had two dialects - the Assyrian and the Babylonian. It exists in cuneiform inscriptions. We have evidence of its use in Mesopotamia from around 3500 BC until around sixth century BC, when it was replaced by Aramaic.

In between 3500 BC and 6th century BC, it was widely spoken in the Middle East. The Babylonian dialect served as a lingua fanca in the region while the Assyrian dialect was in use for other purposes.
