Al-Akhtal

Al-Akhtal (645-713) was an Arab poet. He was famous as Ghiyath ibn Ghawth al-Alchtal. He was first Muslim Arab dynasty. He broke traditional style of short ghazal form and developed an original voice, chiefly by using obscenities and manipulating the short ghazal form. He was called “the poet of the Umayyads.”
