ALABAMA

ALABAMA is one of the states in the United States of America. This state of the North American region is traversed by a river of the same name. It is located in the southeastern part of the country on the Gulf of Mexico. Its capital city is Montgomery.

The area of the state is a little larger than England, highly fertile and a great cotton-growing country, and abounding in iron, coal, and marble, bounded on the west by the Mississippi, on the north by Tennessee, and the east by Georgia.

Spanish explorers visited it in the mid 16th century. It was later settled by the French, but in 1763 came under Britain. It became part of the United States in 1783, but attained statehood on December 14, 1819.
