ALDEHYDE

ALDEHYDE is a term in chemistry, which is shortened form of the Latin alcohol dehydrogenatum literally ' alcohol deprived of dydrogen'. It is applied for a limpid, very volatile liquid, of a suffocating odour, obtained from the oxidation of alcohol.

This organic compound contains the group -CHO. Typically, aldehydes include formaldehyde (methanal) and acetaldehyde (ethanal).
