Alessandro Farnese

Alessandro Farnese (1468-1549), popularly known as Pope Paul III, was a Pope who attained the papal chair as Paul III in 1534. He is known for the excommunication of Henry VIII of England, the founding of the Order of the Jesuits (1540), and the convocation of the Council of Trent (1542) that marked his term of office.
