Alexander J Ellis

Alexander J Ellis (1814-1890), full name Alexander John Ellis, was an eminent English philologist, born at Horeton. He published many papers on phonetics and early English pronunciation. He was President of the Philological Society. His name, originally Sharpe, changed by royal license.
