Alexander Cruden

Alexander Cruden (1701-1770) was a Scottish author chiefly known for his "Complete Concordance of the Holy Scriptures," with which alone his name is now associated. He was a self-styled Corrector of the nation's morals. He was born in Aberdeen. He intended for the Church, but from unsteadiness of intellect not qualified to enter it. He was placed frequently in restraint. It appears that he had been a good deal employed as a press corrector. He gave himself out as "Alexander the Corrector," commissioned to correct moral abuses.
