Alexandrite

Alexandrite is a gemstone which appears green in daylight and red in artificial light. It is named after the name of Alexander II, the tsar of Russia.

This rare mineral is a variety of chrysoberyl. It was earlier very difficult to obtain and therefore very costly in gemstone market. The situation has now been changed after new sources of this mineral are found in Brazil and Tanzania, but is yet a costly gemstone.
