Alexandropol

Alexandropol, also spelled Aleksandropol, was the former name (1840-1924) of Gyumri. It was the largest town in the Erivan district of Russian Armenia, and a fortress of great strength. It is now an industrial city in northwestern Armenia, located close to the border of modern Turkey.
