Alginic acid

Alginic acid is a term in chemistry for an insoluble gelatinous carbohydrate. It is found as salts in many brown seaweeds, which are harvested throughout the world for production of sodium alginate. This sodium salt is used as a thickener in foods and many other materials. It is used in industries including food, textile printing and pharmaceutical. Dental impression material utilizes alginate as its means of gelling. It is both food and skin safe.
