ALGONQUINS

ALGONQUINS, also spelled Algonkins, are one of the three aboriginal races of North American Indians, originally occupying nearly the whole region from the Churchill and Hudson Bay southward to North Carolina, and from the east of the Rocky Mountains to Newfoundland.

A member of this community is called Algonquin or Algonkin. These people are living now mainly in Canada along the Ottawa River and its tributaries and westward to the north of Lake Superior. Anything of or related to these people or their languages is also called Algonquin.

The language they speak has been divided into five dialects.
