Alias

Alias is legal term that refers to a specified name under which a named person is more familiar or also known. The alias is usually an assumed identity of a person under the specified name.

In computer science, it is an alternative name or label for a file, command, address, or any other item that is used to access the matters that the original ones contain.

In physics and telecommunications, it refers to each of a set of signal frequencies that would give the same set of sampled values when sampled at a given uniform rate. At the time of reconstruction of the original signals, aliases become potentially risky, because they might be incorrectly substituted for one another on account of their being misidentified. It generally introduces errors and distortions.
