Allantoin

Allantoin is a term in biochemistry for a cyclic crystalline compound related to hydantoin. Its chemical formula is C₄H₆N₄O₃. It is formed in the nitrogen metabolism of many of the mammals excluding primates.

It was first discovered in the allantoic fluid of cows, whence it derives its name.
