Allantoin

Allantoin is a term in biochemistry for a cyclic crystalline compound related to hydantoin. Its chemical formula is C4H6N4O3. It is formed in the nitrogen metabolism of many of the mammals excluding primates.

It was first discovered in the allantoic fluid of cows, whence it derives its name.
