Allspice

Allspice is the berry of the pimento, or Jamaica pepper. It is a tree of the myrtle family. Its botanical name is Pimenta dioica and the family name is Myrtaceae.

The dried fruits or a West Indian tree are also called allspice. It is an aromatic fruit used as a culinary spice. Some use it as whole and some grind it to make its powder for use.

A North American tree or shrub is also known by this name or which several species are found, such as Carolina allspice and smooth allspice. It is also aromatic. The name of its Genus is Calycanthus, and it belongs to Calycanthaceae family.
