Almandine is a gemstone, a kind of garnet. It has violet tint.

The gemstone derives its name from a Latin phrase alabandina gemma which means 'jewel from Alabanda.'

It is worth mentioning here that Alabanda was an ancient city in Asia Minor where these gemstones were cut.
