Aloe vera

Aloe vera, literally true aloe, is a plant grown chiefly in the Caribbean area and the southern US. It belongs to Liliaceae (or Aloaceae) family.

This name is given to this plant in contrast to the American agave, a plant that closely resembles it.

The gelatinous substance obtained from this plant is also called aloe vera. It is used in cosmetics as an emollient. It has also several medicinal use, such as treatment of burns, and to cure certain stomach related problems.
