Alpha-hydroxy acid

Alpha-hydroxy acid, also called fruit acid, is a term in chemistry for an organic acid. It contains a hydroxyl group bonded to the carbon atom adjacent to the group of carboxylic acid.

This acid has exfoliating properties for which it is used in several skin-care preparations. There are a number of compounds which are used for this purpose.
