Alphonse Bertillon

Alphonse Bertillon (1853 — 1914) was a French criminologist. He is known for devising a system of body measurements for the identification of criminals, which is named the 'Bertillon System' after him. Before the emergence of the technique of fingerprinting at the beginning of the 20th century, it was widely in use. It was superseded by the new technique.
