ALTAI MOUNTAINS

ALTAI MOUNTAINS is a mountain system in Central Asia stretching west from the Desert of Gobi. It extends in the east about 1,600 km from Kazakhstan into western Mongolia and northern China.

It once formed the south boundary of Asiatic Russia, abounding, to the profit of Russia, in silver and copper, as well as other metals.
