Alternation of generations

Alternations of generation is a term used in biology or botany for an alternating pattern of reproduction, such as sexual and asexual.

Such a pattern of reproduction is found in the life cycles of some invertebrates and of several lower plants.

The lower plant fern and some jellyfish are its example. Some invertebrates are also dioecious and parthenogenetic.
