Althen

Althen (1709–1774), full name Jean-Baptiste Joannis Althen, known simply as Jean Althen, was a Persian-Armenian agronomist refugee from Nakhchivan, who introduced into France the cultivation of madder in the 1750s, which became one of the most important products of the South of France.
