Alveolar

Alveolar is something of or relating to an alveolus.

In anatomy, it refers to the bony ridge having the sockets of the upper teeth, or an alveolus or the alveoli of the lung.

In phonetics, it refers to the consonants that are pronounced with the tip of the tongue on or near the ridge containing the sockets of the upper teeth. For example - n, s, t. Such consonants are also called alveolar consonants.
