The ruins of Amaravati stupa are situated at Amaravati. It is about 50 Kms from south of Vijayawada town in Andhra Pradesh, a state of India.
This Buddhist monument was built in the 2nd - 3rd centuries BC. However, Subsequent additions were made in the 1st-4th centuries AD under both Satavahana and Ikshvaku kings. The ancient Satavahana capital, Dhanyakataka is nearby.
The stupa was 36.5 m across and encircled by a 4.2 m path. This was a brick structure covered with marble casing slabs. Now, only a large earthen mound survives of the original stupa.
