AMATI

AMATI was a celebrated family of Italian violin-makers from Cremona living in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Three generations of this family are credited for developing basic proportions of the violin, viola and cello.

The contributions were made by Andrea (c.1520-80); his sons Antonino (1550-1638) and Girolamo (1551-1635); and Girolamo's son Niccolo (1596-1684).
