Ambrosia beetle

Ambrosia beetle is a wood boring beetle that derives its name from its food called ambrosia, a fungus. It is dark in colour and small in size.

Several genera of this species are found. Ambrosia beetles of the genus Platypus belong to the family Platypodidae, while the ambrosia beetles of the genus Xyleborus and others belong to Scolytidae family.
