American Civil War

American Civil War was the war fought during 1861-65 in the United States of America. It was fought over the issues of slavery and states' rights.

It was a war between the Confederate states of the South and the northern US states, known as the Union.

In 1861, the pro-slavery southern states seceded from the Federal Union following the election of Abraham Lincoln on an anti-slavery platform. However, the Confederate states of the South were finally defeated by the Union, the northern US states.
