American Federation of Labor

American Federation of Labor (AFL) was an organization of North American trade unions prior to 1955, when it merged with the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO). After the merger, of the two organizations into one, the new organization was renamed the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).
