AMMONIA

Ammonia is a colourless, pungent, volatile gas of nitrogen and hydrogen, obtained from sal-ammonia. The word is derived from ammoniac, a term which was used in middle English as a name for the salt and gum obtained near the temple of Jupiter Ammon at Siwa in Egypt. It is worth mentioning that Jupiter Ammon is the Greek name for the Egyptian deity Amen.

Ammonia is soluble in water, and when dissolved, it gives a strongly alkaline solution. The solution of this gas is also called ammonia, which is used as a cleaning fluid.
