Amoeba

Amoeba is a minute animalcule of the simplest structure. This single celled animal is very small, and is merely a mass of protoplasm. It catches food and moves around by extending fingerlike projections. It absorbs its food at every point all over its body by means of processes protruded therefrom at will, with the effect that it is constantly changing its shape.

Amoebas are found in damp environments as free-living animalcule. Several of them are also parasitic.

Acquatic Amoeba proteus is one of the species among several families and genera of Amoeba. which includes the phylum Rhizopoda and kingdom Protista.
