Amorites

Amorites were a powerful Canaanitish tribe, seemingly of tall stature, living in northeast of the Jordan. They were subdued by Joshua at Gibeon. A member of the community is called an Amorite. Anything of this community or related to it is also referred to as amorite.

They were seminomadic people living in the 3rd millennium BC in Mesopotamia, Palestine, and Syria. They were the first dynasty of Babylon and were founders of Mari on the Euphrates.
