Anadyomene

Anadyomene, literally "emerging", is a name given to the Greek goddess Aphrodité, the goddess of sexual love and beauty, in allusion to her arising out of the sea. The term is used as adjective to describe Aphrodite and also the equivalent Roman goddess Venus, since they have emerged from the sea. Anadyomene is also the name of a famous painting of Apelles so representing her.
