Anchor

Anchor is an equipment made of heavy object attached to a rope or chain typically used to moor a vessel to the bottom of the sea. It has generally a metal shank with a ring at one end for the rope and a pair of curved or barbed flukes at the other. It prevents the vessel to drift. That is why a person or thing is also called an anchor that provides stability or confidence is difficult and uncertain situations.

In broadcasting or athletics, an anchor is a person who conducts a programme, such as a news anchor.
